AttorneyIndex is an independent commercial directory funded by advertising. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, or any other bar association or government body. References to the State Bar describe where public data comes from, not a partnership.
Where the data comes from
Every listing is built from the public attorney directory of The State Bar of California — public records under the California Public Records Act. We list only attorneys whose license status is Active; when the registry shows that an attorney can no longer practice, the listing is removed. Every profile shows the date its record was last checked and links to the official registry entry, so you can verify any fact yourself. Where our page and the registry ever disagree, the registry is authoritative.
Practice areas are reported by the attorneys themselves to the State Bar, which does not verify them. A “State Bar certified” badge is a different, stronger claim: that specialty is certified by the Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization. The two are never mixed on this site.
What money can and cannot buy
Listing in the directory is automatic and free — it follows the public registry, and no one can pay to be added, to be removed, or to look more trustworthy. Advertising and any promoted placement are labeled as such. Payment never changes license facts, never buys a verification mark, and we never sell leads or take a share of any attorney’s fee.
