What may still be set
- Cloudflare security cookies. Our traffic passes through Cloudflare, which protects the site from abuse and may set strictly necessary cookies such as
__cf_bmto tell automated traffic from people. These are not ours, carry no advertising purpose, and are not used to track you across sites. - An admin session cookie. The content system at
/adminsets a session cookie when someone signs in to it. That is the operator of this site, not a visitor — you will never meet it by reading the directory.
The analytics cookie
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are useful. It sets its own cookies, which count you as a returning reader rather than a new one each visit.
Nothing is loaded and nothing is stored until you choose Accept. Before that the measurement script is not requested at all — not blocked after loading, not loaded in a disabled state. Choosing Decline leaves the site in the state described in bold at the top of this page, and you can keep reading everything either way.
You can change your mind whenever you like, and changing it to Decline deletes the cookies already set: . The same control sits in the footer of every page. Your answer is kept in this browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie, so declining really does leave you with none of ours.
Controlling cookies
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies in its settings. Because this site does not depend on any of its own, blocking them will not break anything here. Blocking the strictly necessary Cloudflare ones may mean you are challenged more often before pages load.
