San Diego family and bankruptcy courts: locations and self-help

San Diego Superior Court's Family & Children page identifies divorce, legal separation, annulment, parentage, custody, visitation, child and spousal support, and domestic violence restraining orders as family-law matters handled by Family Court.

The court's Family Law Facilitator's Office provides free help to people who do not have legal representation. Its staff can help with court forms and general legal information, but the attorneys are neutral court employees, not the visitor's lawyers. The office offers in-person and remote assistance, and its locations page currently lists four in-person offices:

That page gives all four the same schedule and describes the service as provided on weekdays: 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the Tuesday afternoon session ending at 4:00 p.m. The office also states plainly that demand is high and that waits can be significant. Self-help and legal advice are different services. The facilitator page says the office does not provide strategic planning, trial preparation, help with complex property and debt issues, or preparation of Qualified Domestic Relations Orders. Bankruptcy: one courthouse serves two counties

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California serves San Diego and Imperial counties. This is the Southern District, not the Central District used for Los Angeles or the Northern District used for San Francisco. The court states that it has one bankruptcy courthouse, in downtown San Diego:

The court's location page lists public hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding federal holidays. It lists (619) 557-5620 for the court; the separate court phone list identifies that number as general information and says to press 0 for an operator. Those details describe the courthouse; they do not establish where a particular matter belongs.

The current 341 instructions start with the case notice

The U.S. Trustee Program's current Southern District 341 meeting page, updated June 23, 2026, says Chapter 7, 12, and 13 cases filed on or after July 1, 2023, use Zoom for meetings held beginning on or after August 10, 2023. Alternative arrangements may be approved when circumstances prevent video attendance, and the U.S. Trustee may require an in-person meeting in a rare case. Chapter 11 meetings remain telephonic until further notice.
