A licence that was active in August is not necessarily active today. Attorneys retire, change practice areas, move offices, are suspended, and occasionally die — and a directory that never re-reads its source quietly turns into a list of people who used to be findable.
This page is the record of every re-check AttorneyIndex has run against the public registry of The State Bar of California, and what each one changed. It is published for the same reason the check date sits on every profile: a claim about freshness that cannot be inspected is a claim worth nothing.

Across the 4 checks since the first import, 36 attorneys entered the directory, 24 left it, and 23 moved to a different city. The total has gone 5,012 → 5,024 in six weeks, which is a smaller net change than the movement underneath it — churn and growth are different measurements, and only one of them is visible in a headline count.
This page reports directory operations for research and general information. It does not provide legal advice, and a change in this table is not a statement about any attorney's competence or conduct.
What the numbers mean
Records re-read is how many registry records the run actually fetched. Two kinds of run appear in the table and the difference matters. A status refresh re-asks the registry only about licensees whose search row changed, which is why it costs minutes; it catches a suspension, and it does not catch a lawyer who quietly changed firms. A full re-read fetches every record behind every listing, takes about three hours, and is the only run that can move the check date on a profile nobody's status changed.
Removed does not mean an attorney did something wrong. A listing comes off for four separate reasons: the State Bar record no longer shows an active licence; the State Bar stops publishing the record at all, which is what it does for judges and for deceased licensees; the attorney's own self-reported practice areas no longer include family law, divorce or bankruptcy; or the registered office is outside California, since this directory is organised by California city. In the September 7–8 run, six of the eight removals were the third kind; the September 14 run had the first of the fourth.
Moved counts listings whose city changed, which changes the profile address. The old address keeps working and redirects, so a link written a year ago still arrives at the right person.
What this page deliberately does not claim
AttorneyIndex stores the date each listing was last checked and the totals for each run. It does not store a per-attorney history. So no page here will tell you that a particular lawyer's status has been unchanged since a given date — that would require a record we do not keep, and writing it anyway would be inventing data.
For the authoritative status of any individual attorney, including public discipline, the State Bar's own Attorney Search is the record that governs. Every profile on this site links to it directly.

- How often is AttorneyIndex checked against the State Bar registry?
- The directory was imported on August 3-4, 2026 and re-checked four times since, most recently on September 14, 2026. The September 7-8 run re-read all 5,478 registry records behind the listings; the weekly refresh since then re-asks only about licensees whose search row changed.
- What changed in the most recent check?
- The September 14, 2026 run added 12 listings, removed 5 and moved 1 to a new city. One of the removals was an attorney whose registered office moved outside California; three had dropped family law or bankruptcy from their self-reported practice areas.
- Does AttorneyIndex know when an individual attorney's status last changed?
- No. The directory stores the date each listing was last checked, and the totals for each run, but not a per-attorney history. A profile can say when it was verified; it cannot say how long the status had been the same before that.
- Why do attorneys get removed from the directory?
- A listing is removed when the State Bar record no longer shows an active license, when the State Bar stops publishing the record, when the attorney's self-reported practice areas no longer include family law, divorce or bankruptcy, or when the registered office is outside California. Removal is not a judgement about the attorney.
